I couldn't be bothered editing out the trusty epiphone. These photos were just taken for insurance purposes. As you can see, it came with some creamy soapbars which basically sounded like a disgruntled hornets nest. Buzz boxes. Had the tonal quality of one of those Faggio scooters in Vice City and were equally as lame.
So, the soapbars have been removed and replaced with superior Pups. (The wanker in the music store told me that 'pups' is what 'people in the industry' call pickups). So, there is now a Dimarzio somethingsomething in the bridge, which is effectively a humbucker in a p90 case, sounds mean. There's now a cheaper dogeared p90 in the neck which required a bit of routing. It has that true p90 sound but fortunately, not too much hum.
The selector switch, pods and input jack have also been replaced for much more sturdier versions of themselves so now those parts don't suck.
I also put some new strings in it, normally I use d'addario regulars but I put 11's on this one. So it's basically like playing a fence.
More updates to follow.

It's the coolest guitar I have seen in a long time, and I worry that you are going to make it sound like a normal good guitar. Oh lordy, how I worry. Fuck, I love it so much. I want one.
ReplyDeleteBut P90's are tough titties! So that's good.
ReplyDeleteHahaha, don't worry I'm staying true to it's original form, I'm just trying to make it less of a 'starter kit' style thing. It is damn cool, the new p90 gives it a wicked rich neck tone, lots of depth.
ReplyDeleteYou should get one, they're only cheap. Like, -$200.
You'll have to come down to my place next time you're down, you would love the feel/sound of this thing so hard that you'd probably jizz in someone else's pants. Because your own would be full.
Of Jizz.
